Always gotta get some kinda strength and conditioning in before the homies come in lol…

Smaller class with 15 min warm-up, 45 mins of drilling the x-pass by it self, then chaining the arm-bar, and then to kimura. We then reviewed a back take double lapel strangle from full harness or seat belt.

Clip of us rolling…

#greatclass

Class was a great… had a visitor from Toronto, Natasha. Trains at Body of Four, with Mike Aviado and those group of killers. Have only met him a few time at the Ontario Open, seems like a great guy, even have him a a BJJ Facebook friend lol… hoping to roll with him one day.
Thor had us do a standard warm-up, then he got us to review a closed guard back take, then a closed guard arm-bar. Fan-freaking-tastic. I didn’t roll, due to my wrist. Could barley do a few of the warm-up exercises… still tried.

Partnered with Mitch… kid is picking up things quick. Training hard and a lot had his first competition not too long ago… i commend him. Competition isn’t for the weak. We repped out the back take, then the arm-bar quite a few times.

#everyonehasaprice

Word… Thor’s recruited a few potential BJJer’s from his work. Fan-freaking-tastic, had an extra Gi to lend one of them. That I’ve only worn once. I have the identical Gi in an A0 and all patched up… It’s an A1 in case I ever gain the weight back and need it to be IBJJF legal.

#Truth

I Gi hoard, truth i think of weird stuff like that. Especially if you like the style and brand. Fact is the A0, I still use in my rotation regularily, so you never know. But… I had an extra Gi to lend.

Turned out homie wanted to borrow it for a week. lol
That’s like lending your under wear out…  yeah no lol.

Either-way, I told the new guy that I’ll be taking it home and washing it right after. He asked if he could borrow it for a week or so until he figured out buying a Gi . In which I said no… I like my Gi’s cleaned regularly with after every use. I remember my first Gi as a white belt. It sure as hell wasn’t and I bought it, if I was lent one… I would have treated it worse. I ended up throwing it away, a Royal blue Reevo, very old model with no patches lol. He then asked if whether I would sell it… the following things popped into my head.

  • I have this exact GI one in a A0…
  • I wasn’t really gonna gain any extreme weight back…
  • I wore this particular Gi only once…

I offered it to him for $150 Canadian, which I thought was fair under the circumstances, I wasn’t in no way going to lend it to him for a week lol weird… especially since I didn’t even know him or whether he would return, or how he would actually treat it… He said that he would think about it and let me know after class. I agreed. I also lent him a white belt, which was my very first one… I told him he could get a GI online for $100 Canadian. I wasn’t intending to sell it or lend it out for a week lol. Shoot that’s weird,  especially when you know how much you perspire while training BJJ and the idea that it would be well taken care of made it easy to say no, I’ll just take it home.

I bought that puppy brand new for $104.00 USD, with shipping and handling at $25.00 USD & taxes $16.77 USD … that being said, totaled $145.77 USD.

The exchange rate not even sure back then… the bill on my paypay indicated 145.77 USD. However, currently…

exchange 1

$206.86 Can lol…

They GI I plan on selling doesn’t exist anymore at $150 CN… but these are very similar prices.

Redstar

soooo… $119 + $25 Shipping + $18.72 tax = $162.72 USD

exchange 2

$230.91 Can lol

That being said my original offer of $150CN was legit… he got a deal. My white belt however… guess he didn’t want the hassle of buying one online… I wasn’t going to sell it to him, but when he said $200 for both…

#deal

I was gonna give my kid that white belt… but for 50 bucks, I can buy 10 of them lol.

#everyonehasaprice

One of my homies said I was a ruthless business person… I think it was pretty realistic that my original price of $150 CN was more then fair lol…

The logic and numbers don’t lie…

Truth is when you talk about a fair price, its always dependent on what the consumer market has the ability to spare. If they can afford it, they will pay for it. People don’t buy Rolex’s because they are dependable… they buy them because they can lol. However, unfortunately price can also be a delusion of dependability, and hold a high standard.

If they can’t afford it, and still want to pay for it, you offer them a solution… which I did. The belt could be bought online for $10 bucks and I even explained that he could find a Gi online for $100.

BJJ related ranting gibberish over…

Quick clip of us reviewing the rolling bow choke below, the drilling it…

We also did the circle of death, which is basically just a positional drill from side control with the top person attacking for a submission or maintaining position, and the bottom person working an escape or re-guarding.

wpid-fb_img_1429753522399.jpg

4, 2 minute rounds on the top, then 4, 2 min rounds on the bottom.

Surprised on the attendance… homies wanted to train!!

Nathan, Morgo, newer Blue Belt Kyle from Halifax, Philippe, and Katrina were in attendance.

Long Weekend… almost cancelled the class for today… nope.

Lol came in anyway…

image

Warm-up was standard… running around, lunges, bear crawls, reverse/side/forward rolls, break falls, and shrimping…

image

The homies then drilled passes and a few takedowns…

We the finished off with the full harnessed positional drilling… clip below.

Everyone had an opportunity to train with everyone, with two recycling of partners… back took, then back taking, its a hard and tough drawn out drill. Either you submit or you escape. Secret is to focus on a solid technical defence… 2 mins a round.

image

Yeah, I went in earlier to work on some rowing… hopefully this will help in the long run.

We warmed up with a bunch of 20 rep exercises, with shrimping, rolling, lunges and even planks. Yes, planks. LOL

image

We ended up reviewing a passing concept, a monkey stance standing guard breaking concept, a x-collar choke variant that I watched on an old Japanese black and white judo video, and then defending against a reverse scarf side control hold. Learnt a few things.

Sun July 25/15 Morning BJJ

Got to LEMMA around 9:30 am… no motivation but hey…

image

Yep… Stationary rowing… fantastic. Unfortunately no lifting. Didn’t want to risk weights with a really bad joint.

image

But 4 sets of 10 mins… every set beating the other… yes I was spent this morning.

Attendees included Katerina, Brittany, Jared, Scott, Gary, & Jesse… yes the king of Nogi… he came into learn some GI chokes. Fantastic!!

Warm-up was standard with jogging around the mat, lunges, forward/backwards rolling/shrimping and even butt scooting.

image

Drilling consisted of the x-pass, bull fighter-pass, knee slice-pass, turtle guard switches to even a harness back take and submission string follow up if you felt comfortable doing it… 2 min per person as fast as possible then switch. I drilled with Scotty which was nice because usually, there is an odd number of people.

Jesse came in at roughly 11:30 am… So he missed the warm-up and drilling. Oh well. Dude is getting technique in with a GI…

Heck he’s in a GI… BOOM
image

Technique review discussed the cross collar while inside the closed guard using the cross side lapel, as well as in side control, knee on belly, and even when fully mounted. We then reviewed the paper cutter choke from side control. Coach Matt was in and he showed a different variation of the paper cutter choke which required going to north south first which was cool and probably the first variation that was taught to me.

image

The guys spent 2 mins repping the technique each. I had them asked questions on how to make the submission theirs and how to make it work for them.

image

Had everyone roll 5 min rounds. I sat out due to my finger hyper extension. The beast sushi had to leave due to the kids fighting. The homies rolled about 3 rounds each. Lets just say I was really impressed by the way Jared rolled. He hasn’t been OTM for over a month… and wow. Great stuff!!

image

Definitely, I got sweaty from the rowing then drill session.

Back to the Buskers Festival for a mid day meal… I was determined to get some beef vindaloo lol.

Determined

July 19/15 Sun Morning BJJ

Got to class around 10:30 am… yes no lifting or conditioning lol… In-laws have been in since Friday. Had too much scotch last night lol.

wpid-fb_img_1425488219642.jpg

Larger then normal class for the summer with Nathan Hatton, Katrina Jones, Rupert Klein, Brittany McNeice, Justin St-Amand, Philippe Jecker, and big red Michael Hinsperger in attendance.

wpid-fb_img_1424065246623.jpg

Got the guys to drill some basic techniques for a warm up. 10 reps on each side. Arm bars from closed guard, hip bump sweeps, kimura from closed guard, hip bump to Marcelotines, triangles from closed guard, omaplata’s from closed guard, spider guard switches to Omaplata’s, for some I had them dive into triangles, and then they finished off with side control switches. A short clip of us below drilling…

Technique:
1. Cobra choke while in S-mount, starting in mount, switching to S-mount, gift wrap, then attack with the cobra choke.
2. Cobra choke set up from closed guard, to arm drag, then gift wrap, to flower sweep, attacking while in a S-mount like above.
3. X-collar from closed guard, palm-up and thumb in for the finish. My favourite BWT lol.

A short clip of us reviewing technique…

Saw this cobra choke on Facebook from a Blackbelt in Brazil for one of his instructions… Nathan mentioned that it was an old school choke. Pictures from my homie below… a catch wrestling technique.

image

Rolling: (5 min, 1 min breaks)
1. Philippe
2. Rupert
3. Brittany

Philippe is a 190 lbs blue belt, competes and he medals. Yep he puts me through the burners lol. Rupert was working real hard this morning to pass my guard… wpid-fb_img_1424066360026.jpgOver-time hard lol, great work homie. Brittany is methodical, working real hard, next up for her is understanding the progression and where to go in positioning. wpid-fb_img_1425777727935.jpgHer game has improved substantially ever since attending my classes and drilling more… she really needs to get graded. I will be sending something to her that has really helped me in BJJ, that I’ve read from Stephan Kesting. Worth a read if you have read it… BJJ Road Map
