Sun Aug 23/15 11am BJJ

Monday nights are where I can catch up on my BJJ gibberishy adventures from over the weekend… yes adventures. Always something new and exciting from each class. Either being pushed, or the one being pushed. Nothing wrong with grinding, especially when you have nothing left, thus nothing to lose. You will have gained a lesson for the next, if your goal wasn’t met. Thus, never a loss.

I was suffering from a hang over… BOOOO…

Baby was up a few times as well lol. YAY…

HECK…

I still came in YEPPERS!!

Having a baby really is a testament to what you are willing to maintain as goals… I really really appreciate what my mother did for me. Truth…

For all those single mother out there with no support… WOW…

image

Gotta keep training… no matter what.

3 sets of 500 m rows. I need to keep it under 2 mins for consistency.

image

3rd set was the best… glad I showed up and just did it. 90 percent of success is just showing up… lol

I got the guys to review a loop choke variant that I love to hit while guys go for a single leg. It is a goodie… in fact requested by Justin.

image

I swear, I made them rep it out like 100 times each lol… sore their necks will be… hah

quick clip of us reviewing the loop choke

We then worked on the choke with resistance. 2 min rounds then alternated. Then switched partners and did it over again. Yep sore necks hah!!

quick clip of us positional drilling the loop choke at 50 to 75 percent resistance

Rolling:(6 min rounds, 30 sec breaks)
1. Justin
2. Hassan
3. Katrina
4. Justin

quick clip of us rolling

Boy was Katrina giving me pressure… wouldn’t let up for the whole 6 mins. Good for you! Train hard, train lots, and train smart… just keep showing up and you will get better!

Sat Aug 22/15 2pm BJJ

image

Morgo was in today… man, classes with people have been hit or miss. For the past month only 3 or 4 people on Saturdays. Guess when its Sunny, people just want to enjoy the sun lol. Not me. Hah… BJJ word.

image

Quite a few showed up for the 2pm grinder today though … shity for them. Morgo had us to do the circle of death hahahah.

20 reps of whatever. Twice around the circle, third rep, was a partner drill. Hahahaha. Albino puked. Hadn’t seen him out in over a month for actual training. Anyways, I loved it.

quick clip below

We reviewed the spider guard… to a few sweeps. With a single legged x-sweep into a combat base stand up, a hip/heel push/pull, & a shin sweep with spider guard to a triangle. Just hoping we work on these for a while before to other techniques. I partnered with Travis. His legs were twice as long as mine so the combat base sweep t stand up was really hard when he spread his legs out lol… had to modify it a tad. Hahahah.

quick clip below

Rolling wasn’t much… I guess everyone was spent from the warm-up. Lame… only 6 min rounds.

Rolling:(6 min)
1. Travis D
2. Luke
3. Hassan

Quick clip of everyone rolling

Quick clip of only me and Hassan rolling, while everyone was spent… hahahah

Fri Aug 21/15 OpenMat

I train a lot… or at least I’d like to think that I do.

image

Now I’m not comparing myself to those in their early 20s or even late 20s but hey… those, that are in their mid to late 30s, have a full time job, mortgage child or worst a baby. Love my baby… really do or else I wouldn’t have done a 6 month parental leave… and here in my head head I thought it would mean more BJJ.

Baby talk all day… really BJJ keeps me sane. Oh, the fine scotch helps too.

Someone once told me that they had all these friends that use to train all the time… gym, weights, cross fit and stuff. Then out of nowhere they quit. Common denominator… a baby lol. So, apparently I’m doing OK.

image

Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturday’s. Rowing or lifting only in the early mornings on Sundays, Tuesdays, & Wednesdays…

Getting out OTM can be tough… when I’m out. I train.

image

Sometimes I really don’t feel like it when I out OTM… truth.

image

Heck I still went… or wait maybe it was an excuse to leave the house. Great excuse either way.

Yep went to the Complex in the morning and rowed…

image

Yes pulled 2 km under 10 mins. Fantastically, fantastic…

Had enough gull to go to open mat…

image

Sooo much truth… all you have to do is show up… lets just say I wanted to take it easy. Mitch was in and he mentioned he wanted to roll with me a lot. Mitch is newer… heck he even invested in a Gi, which kinda means he maybe a keeper. Younger athletic, moves like a wrestler, very natural in negating attacks, and is friends with Devon. Yep, Devon Richer. Our head coaches son. Soo, you can guess he has had some rolling time… which is fantastic and he is game.

Rolling:(10 mins, 1 min breaks)
1. Mitch
2. Mitch
3. Mitch
4. Mitch
5. Jesse Veltri

For some reason he kept wanting to roll, especially after the bell, soooo I kept going lol… and hey, I don’t segregate my rolling time to specific people. I was the same way… always wanted to roll with the best. Back in the day when there was only a few of us in a GI at the older location, that meant anyone lol.

image

Rolling with Jesse is nice cause he’s always setting up attacks and combos. Unfortunately, we’ll be losing him to Winnipeg as a training partner. His competition Nogi, 10th Planet, trucker stuff will be missed. TBH, without him I would have never been able to learn how to defend those kinds of attacks.

Different styles makes different scenarios, making different strategies, and different approaches.

You will be missed here buddy, cheers to your next chapter!
