Its nice with this blogging thing to be able to blab about random thoughts, things that occur and what I feel portraits my slight addiction to BJJ… very slight.
Is this a reflection of my reality? Or is it a reflection of what I want people to see. Is this life? Or is it what I want people to see… lol well proof is in the pudding I guess… mat time is mat. None of that can be taken away. Blood sweat, tears of joy from being choked out and pushed by your fellow training partners.
Between the foot, and ankle now lol… life is life, maybe its telling me to relax?
Then I snap back to reality and boom… am I dead?
So… picked up the little guy after work, limped around the house with him, fed him and got myself ready for BJJ lol.
Tape… plenty of tape, tiger balm, and ibuprofen lol. Yep
Dedication or stupidity… probably closer to stupidity. Either way I went to BJJ lol… didn’t want to miss learning something someone else would have without myself being OTM…
Caleb was in which was nice… he’s been telling me that he want to train every Wednesday now. He showed up second week in a row!
Coach got us to do a few takedowns… 2 in fact. Thor reviewed the double. The single, and a heel pick. He also got us to review a guard jump to an arm-bar, crazy cray cray!
I wanted to roll… my body was telling me no. Noticed coach Keith eating chocolate covered nuts… went over to enjoy a few while the white belts rolled. Yep a lot of white belts OTM…

Reality is… the destination is the same. No need to rush. I need good ankles and feet to continue this journey lol.
Between my foot, my eye’s and lack of sleep from the baby being sick, reality is, I should have taken Friday off lol… not to mention the long ass day at the office playing mental catch up with paper work that was piled on my desk throughout the 5 months off on parental leave… but hey, life sucks sometimes…

Noticed a fellow OTM that I really haven’t seen since we moved to this location, probably since 2011? maybe 2012?… guessing only a few people remember what happened that night OTM… strange and awkward it was…
With our core of current guys definitely haven’t had a situation like that since or even ever.
Surprised to see him there for open mat last night… oh well.

Picked up G from Daycare today… dude was sick. Scratching his ears, coughing. Presumably an ear infection at the time… yep shitty.
Picked up Indian food from the Monsoon… their food was freaken off the hook… I highly recommend. Other then the damn, dining location and the tandoori chicken that was raw and overly under cooked, which just required extra time in our oven. Everything tasted exquisite, light and very delightful!
10 outa 10 for taste, but definitely could have been spicier lol
We didn’t sleep all night on Wednesday. Poor kid, definitely picked it up from daycare. Crying, screaming, and coughing… a lot of Tylenol, and sleeping sitting up to relieve pressure. I had to take the day off to take him to the clinic. Yeppers Wednesday night kinda sucked.
On the flip side…
BJJ was fantastic lol… got to LEMMA around 5:45 pm.

The monkey started day care today so I’m back to work. Yep. back to work… excellent as that I get to have full conversations with actual adults. Well conversing period will up my reduced IQ lol… love it.
Rhino was in running the class… I partnered with Eric the wrestler or what I’ve called him in the past Blue Fuji… damn toe was still jammed lol.
Rhino got us to review the stance, sprawling and doubles… then I believe we rolled. Quite a few rounds.
5 mins each… rolled with Eric, Alex, Rock Climber, June Bug, and Eric again lol… oh well, good rounds, and fun. Technical at times… others, like rolling with spazzy white belts lol…
Spazzy, spazzy… jamming a jammed toe… damn thing, will it ever heal lol.
Fighting tooth and nail for a take down with no mat space… love it. Learning curve I guess lol…

Tried to box jump, but my mangled toe got in the way… ended up only doing 30 push-ups then worked on the heavy bag for a few 4.0 min rounds.
Bag work is fantastic for getting the upper body to move with all those fast twitch muscles you rarely use while when your just grappling lol… sometimes I do miss striking and stuff, but when I think about getting punched or kicked in the face that all seems to change lol

Yep I went in on Sunday lol… its funny though, missed Monday and Wednesday this week because I decided to take a little self healing break because of the subconjunctival hemorrhages or bleeding in my eye’s…
BUT seriously though… haven’t been away for too long and it feels like its been forever.

Rolling on Sunday was a big no no lol… felt like my eyes were gonna pop outa its socket with Brittany on top… Taking breaks here and there is a big must. Especially when your getting older, just can’t seem to bounce back like I used to. Oh well back OTM Friday… the hemorrhages appear to be receding.

The baby is finally gonna start daycare next week for an infants program. Its funny, when I chose to do this 6 months of parental leave, I thought I was gonna be training BJJ everyday, hitting the gym every morning, sleeping in all the time, and just plain hanging out with my baby… unfortunately that wasn’t the case lol. I guess babies demand more attention then much expected. I sure have an appreciation for woman and my mom though… much respect. Not as easy as I suspected… talking baby all the time, thinking like a baby all the time, talking to the baby all the time. I feel like I’ve lost a few IQ points and brain cells lol… GOING NUTS, forgetting things I normally don’t forget, drawing blanks in the mornings from getting up between dreams, to change or feed the monkey… yep 6 months and it went fast lol… fortunately I’ve been going into work at least once a week to work on some paper work that seems to just keep piling on the desk lol to get ahead once I get back… yep back soon… hurray!! Definitely pros and cons… but you know what… the time I got to spend with the monkey was priceless… never will he ever be this big again… ever. Thank goodness… lol. Now I know why the wife wanted to go back to work when she did… a good compromise I guess… the grass isn’t greener on the other side, for you men contemplated on going on parental leave… however, if you do decide to take the plunge, at least your wife will know that if they were to die, you will be able to handle things on your own.

Thank god for BJJ, been keeping it as consistent as I can… 4 to even 5 days a weeks of actual training. 5 days, if I time everything accordingly and the stars align…
Sunday Sundays… Early Sunday. Sundays is always fun days… had a few drinks to wash away the pain in the eyes the night before. Not sure if that was smart. Even drank a whole pot of coffee lol… not sure that was smart too… think all of that thins your blood… especially, if your trying to HEAL LOL?
Nuts… eyes were still red. Looked like a Zombie.
The shows still gotta go on… either way, I went in…
20 mins of rowing…
4 sets of 30 push ups, 10-28 in box jumps, 100 crunches, and the 1 set of 12-30 inch box jumps lol… this may have worsened the hemorrhages in my eyes lol… quick clip below…

Unconscious I was at one point… crazy when you lose a few seconds of memory.

First roll was with Beef… light roll. Really light warm-up roll…
So light I went nighty night with a very fast single armed triangle. I tapped… just not fast enough, and worst off in a manner that could not be communicated to my partner. I believe, I may have tapped myself… Ironically enough, I give everyone else shit for not tapping fast enough. Guess humility OTM every so often is a good personal reminder that everyone is not perfect including, obviously myself first and foremost. Embarrassed, a little… but hey this is my blog and honesty is key. Like on the mat our weaknesses will be exposed in one way or form. My gibberish is my gibberish no masking of the truth. Last time I fell asleep was at our old club on James St… during an open mat on a Saturday, triangled by our Professor and head coach doing Nogi via triangle… in 2009 lol… yes. That long ago lol, I vowed to my myself to tap early enough to never fall asleep again… back then all I remembered was stars, seeing a bunch of stars, then my body went limp… he released, and bong, I acted as if nothing happened nd that I was alright lol. Low and behold I was not… I went to sleep in his triangle yep… damn triangle and guys with long legs… damn-it.
Regardless, it was a good reminder that no one is invincible, especially myself. Not taking away from my partner, technically it was sound, no pain, not even the stars that I saw the last time, that’s how fast it went on lol… The head and arm was secured prior to the transition over me… which is where I recall tapping and unfortunately it must have been on my own chest with my free arm lol… which makes sense based on the position he had me in… reality is I should had tapped with my feet or yelled out vocally… then I recall vividly entering my house doors to an angry wife… then Beef’s face yelling my name and asking what my name was… Beef mentioned when I woke up I grabbed his lapel and set up for an arm drag… yep… setting up my grips lol. Felt really out of it… drunk in fact, guess I was out for a few minutes, maybe less.
Lesson learned tap!

Really early, if its with someone that is technically sound…
In my head I was like… I gotta keep rolling, or else coming out to the gym was for nothing lol… yeah weird.
Next I rolled with Black Belt Keith, a roll with Morgan, then a really long ass roll with Nathan, 3 or even 4 rounds straight through… still feel a little woozy… eyes are really bad… capillaries must have ruptured from the pressure.
We did manage to hit up the Tokyo house after for Sushi lol… the wife wasn’t impressed with my eyes though.

My foot was still mangled lol… wish we had the option to pull guard. Hah!!
Thor had us review the elbow push escape to counter the double under-pass, as well as from a transition while your opponent in top side control moves the outside anchor arm to across the body for better positioning. Marcelo Garcia used this all the time. Excellent escape when you can time this well. Very powerful once your arm locks out… below is a nice clip for further review with Marcelo demonstrating this from side control.

I did manage to hit the gym this morning to get some cardio in… rowing for about 40 mins… results below.

One more day to go lol… then I’m all caught up. The little guy is sick again… in fact for a few days. Projectile vomiting… poor little thing… puked at BK yesterday, a few times at home, and a few times today. Just have to keep his liquid intake up I guess. Wish I could take all his pain. Must be teething again. Apparently the pain is soo unbearable it would make a grown adult go insane, but I guess that’s what drugs are for… unfortunately not allowed for little babies.
I did manage to get in earlier again Sunday morning, like every Sunday morning lol … with no real motivation but a Tim’s medium black and a note I saw on the white board lol… so instead of 10 mins, I did 20 mins of rowing, then some 24 in box jumps, push ups and crunches in. 4 sets BTW… Oh and an additional 28 in box jumps, 10 or twelve lol.
Felt great afterwards… especially after the stretching and foam roller before the guys started galloping in… cute clip below.
A lot of non regulars showed up this morning which was nice…
I invited a few other new white belts who kept asking questions about a sweep I kept hitting them earlier during this week, in hopes that we could further review their issues, instead of preoccupying class rolling time which was very precious due to the others that required the mat space right after us at 7:30 pm…
Didn’t show… Hopefully next time.

Then we reviewed the scissor sweep from closed guard, first with the knee against the chest or neck, and then the belly with a deep cross collar and sleeve grip…
