Either way I got in around 9am… missed Friday open mat for a Christmas Party… yep staff Christmas party.
Nuts!!!!
Tones of prime rib, food…. and quite a few drinks lol.
Great time… didn’t feel it too bad in the morning. Must have been all the food lol.
yep I went in… great time.
Completed 2 sets of rowing… 20 mins. 4 km each… fun fun.
Class consisted of a warm-up, some drills, isolated drilling, some tech (tomahawk/sickle sweep), some resistance drills, then 6×5 minute rounds of rolling… great stuff.
Lots of fun…
Cute video clip below, enjoy…
I did manage to slip out and watch EBI 5 at the Frenchmans house … of course it was to no surprise who the winner would be lol… Garry Tonon. Just killing it.
Between holidays, colds, and injuries we do what we gotta do…
Cause we do lol
Got to LEMMA around 5:45 pm…
Tape, YES!!…
Tiger Balm, YES!!…
Naproxan, YES!!!…
Stupid damn cold/cough, YES!!
Am I getting over this damn cold??, YES!!!
Did I show up to roll… yes lol…
The cage was full, tone of other homies rolling… awesome.
Noticed Kait and a very young fellow by the name of Leath sitting by on the fence… guess no one wanted to roll with them homies.
Hey…
They need time OTM too… BJJ is for everyone. LOL
We were all white belts once… rolling with them helps us position our selflessness in the world of BJJ, teach others, as others have taught you!
After rolling with Leath, I believe I rolled with Eric and then Thor. Yes last round felt like forever stuck under Thors mount. Not fun… not fun at all.
Either way, Thor ran the warm-up, I partnered with my homie Caleb… who’s a newb.
Thor had us review a heel pick, the knee-slice pass as well as the back-step pass… love them all.
Either way, fantastic class… I’m 5 days behind… oh well.
But dammit I went in… did it again… went to BJJ, in which I shouldn’t have.
Oh well… I felt in in the morning…
The sprawling may have slightly loosened my ankle while some rolling may have tweaked it in a positive manner.
You know how we know you learned something… cause we saw you doing it under pressure while rolling… the mat doesn’t lie.
If you learned it… we saw it… tatami don’t lie.
Shall see in the morning I was thinking to myself lol… either way I had slapped on a bunch of tiger balm, tape, and even two types of braces… soft cotton with a semi hard neoprene style brace with velcro…
Plenty of ankle support…
I partnered with Dr Shat Hatton… we drilled old man style. yep I said it.
Old man drilling lol… it exist.
Great class, Rolled with Shat, Eric, Beast Sushi, hmmmmm who else?? man… oh! Jack… 6 foot skinny boy Jack. Wow long time since he’s been on the mat.
Ooooo yah, baby and wife are sleeping… glass of scotch tonight.
Weird raining today…
#winteriscoming?
All caught up…
Got to LEMMA around 5:30 pm lastnight… pitch black out.
Damn-it… pitch black.
Taped my foot up… tones of tape. Didn’t wear my contacts… ibuprofen, oh and coffee. Yep training blind lol… gotta keep showing up. You always learn something new.
Trying to just roll instead of watching stupid shit lol…
-9 & -9 Astigmatism… yeppers.
Had a nice long as roll with Eric… fun times. He’s improvement is remarkable. Must be the natural wrestling abilities lol.
Butt scoot wrestling haha!
Thor had us review the X-pass, smash-pass, to knee-slice sequence using your head to the floor, under hook far side and near side arm grip to finish… badass.
He even added pursay if your opponent didn’t open up with the under-hook on the far side to turn the knee outwards then attack the mount instead… I believe the idea was that you had options, pending on how your partner and how they reacted on the bottom, instead of just trying to force one pass.
You have a multitude of options by redirecting yourself from one side of the body to the other with that knee, using grips with pressure to stabilize their upper body, and using your opponents direction to dictate the path of least resistance for the best possible solution.
Nice clip from the x-pass to smash-pass transitioning.
Nice clip with drilling and the ability to be mobile moving side to side for more options.
The following clip is nice because it actually discusses how you bury the head and reach for the under-hook to flatten your partner to finish the knee slice. It also reviews other grips as well as my favorite the collar variation lol
Word… up!!
Any way great class… loved the light rolling with wrestler Eric… great job buddy. Focus on the technique your doing great!!
Got to LEMMA around 9:00 am… yep downed a coffee, ibuprofen, taped the foot up and rowed.
My right toe and ball of my foot was sore like a mofo… a 225 lbs white belt missing a single leg and smashing his knee into your foot, wearing a hardened knee pad… great. Second time in a row within a week, greatness… what are the odds, next time, I’m pulling guard.
My 2003 black Jeep is archaic as it comes, standard, no power windows, no power locks, power steering though… oh got a car starter installed a few years ago… lets just say shifting sucked lol. Your toe and ball of your feet are very important lol… but heck!
No rest for the wicked… need to get some kind of cardio in before BJJ…
I didn’t want to be that guy… hahahah
Any who, Nathan ran a 10 min warm-up, then I got the guys and gals to do a few partner drills involving the butterfly butt scoots and maintaining your hooks while your partner walked backwards. After that, drilling consisted of 2 min sessions, each of scissor sweeps, pendulum sweeps, then the flower sweep. The advance guys had to finish with a submission. Technique mainly was the tripod, aka hook sweep… great times. They then repped it out for 2 min sessions with full on resistance twice each. After that we rolled… six 5 minute rounds. Yep lots of rolling lol…
Cute clip of our class…
One of the few errors i keep noticing is that everyone is trying to do the reviewing fast and hard….
Sorry its true… focus on getting the technique correct, before accelerating it… lol crawling, walking, running??
Yep I went in on Sunday lol… its funny though, missed Monday and Wednesday this week because I decided to take a little self healing break because of the subconjunctival hemorrhages or bleeding in my eye’s…
BUT seriously though… haven’t been away for too long and it feels like its been forever.
BJJ is soooo freaking addictive… just my opinion though…

Rolling on Sunday was a big no no lol… felt like my eyes were gonna pop outa its socket with Brittany on top… Taking breaks here and there is a big must. Especially when your getting older, just can’t seem to bounce back like I used to. Oh well back OTM Friday… the hemorrhages appear to be receding.

The baby is finally gonna start daycare next week for an infants program. Its funny, when I chose to do this 6 months of parental leave, I thought I was gonna be training BJJ everyday, hitting the gym every morning, sleeping in all the time, and just plain hanging out with my baby… unfortunately that wasn’t the case lol. I guess babies demand more attention then much expected. I sure have an appreciation for woman and my mom though… much respect. Not as easy as I suspected… talking baby all the time, thinking like a baby all the time, talking to the baby all the time. I feel like I’ve lost a few IQ points and brain cells lol… GOING NUTS, forgetting things I normally don’t forget, drawing blanks in the mornings from getting up between dreams, to change or feed the monkey… yep 6 months and it went fast lol… fortunately I’ve been going into work at least once a week to work on some paper work that seems to just keep piling on the desk lol to get ahead once I get back… yep back soon… hurray!! Definitely pros and cons… but you know what… the time I got to spend with the monkey was priceless… never will he ever be this big again… ever. Thank goodness… lol. Now I know why the wife wanted to go back to work when she did… a good compromise I guess… the grass isn’t greener on the other side, for you men contemplated on going on parental leave… however, if you do decide to take the plunge, at least your wife will know that if they were to die, you will be able to handle things on your own.
#BABYBRAINEXIST
Thank god for BJJ, been keeping it as consistent as I can… 4 to even 5 days a weeks of actual training. 5 days, if I time everything accordingly and the stars align…
Sunday Sundays… Early Sunday. Sundays is always fun days… had a few drinks to wash away the pain in the eyes the night before. Not sure if that was smart. Even drank a whole pot of coffee lol… not sure that was smart too… think all of that thins your blood… especially, if your trying to HEAL LOL?
Nuts… eyes were still red. Looked like a Zombie.
The shows still gotta go on… either way, I went in…
20 mins of rowing…
4 sets of 30 push ups, 10-28 in box jumps, 100 crunches, and the 1 set of 12-30 inch box jumps lol… this may have worsened the hemorrhages in my eyes lol… quick clip below…
Got Nathan to run the warm-up, which also include some drilling… a quick clip below…
Got to LEMMA around 5:45 pm…got some rolling in. First big Willy, then with the Pirate.
LONG ASS ROUNDS lol
Great stuff tough long sessions with some bigger boys lol.
Thor ran the class with a warm-up that consisted of doubles and sprawling…
Back and forth back and forth for like 15 minutes lol or was it 20?? wait was it 10?
I partnered with the beast St Amand.
My foot was still mangled lol… wish we had the option to pull guard. Hah!!
Thor had us review the elbow push escape to counter the double under-pass, as well as from a transition while your opponent in top side control moves the outside anchor arm to across the body for better positioning. Marcelo Garcia used this all the time. Excellent escape when you can time this well. Very powerful once your arm locks out… below is a nice clip for further review with Marcelo demonstrating this from side control.
Rolling:(3 mins, 30 sec break)
St Amand
Fuji
Big Steve
Thank god for the open mat prior… 3 min rounds just ain’t enough some times lol… especially if your trying to execute the technique we reviewed in class and the white belts are trying to eat you alive for dinner and with other agendas on their mind lol…
I did manage to hit the gym this morning to get some cardio in… rowing for about 40 mins… results below.
Made a visit to LEMMA this morning as well…
NICE TO SEE MY ADDICTION BECOMING OTHERS OBSESSION… ahahhaha
Bunch of guys working on a knee/shin guard sweep, some rolling and drilling.
We went to the Thai Kitchen afterwards… fun stuff!!!
My Gi was soaked after the class, washed after every use BTW…
Time to rotate and use one of my other beloved GI’s from my little collection.
Warmed with the fellow Eric, the buddy with the shiny blue Fuji Gi again… great stuff. Long ass round lol.
BTW… he didn’t spaz… well a couple of times he did. But great stuff. Much improvement since our last roll.
Travis ran the class today… I warmed the guys up with the standard running around the mat, lunges, bear crawls, forward and reverse rolls as well as some shrimps.
Travis had us review a few side control escapes 3 in fact. First was a re-guard with a forearm to the neck with a z type guard, second was a bridge roll sweep, & third was a similar sweep with a deep belt grip and body lock.
Had a visiting black belt… didn’t get his name… Logan. Apparently he is in for about 4 days… I’m was hoping to get some rolling in with him… not sure what club he trained with… I had to bounce… fa family lol
Seriously though… if you missed out. Your loss…
Great stuff!
We then rolled… first with The Duncan, and the Mitch… 5 min or 4 min rounds.
Rolled with Big Willy… dude ain’t getting smaller lol.
Having big guy’s on top of you make you focus on technique… using strength is a waste of wonderful resources, especially when there is such a large difference in size and obviously that he will beat me on the strength battle.
Roll like a mouse and wait for opportunity if there is a large size difference …
Strategy is the way to go when up against an opponent bigger and definitely more skilled then the average blue belt.
Although I did manage to tweak my lower back somehow, probably from the lack of posture while trying to escape a big man single leg lol… or maybe he sprawled on me.
Not sure.
Glad I’m not training for a tourney at the moment… still trying to gather myself mentally with all this time off from parental leave. Work hasn’t been really letting up… as paper work still appears when I make my weekly visits lol…
Partnered with the Rock Climber… Rhino ran the class, had us review the double leg at the 5th stage, then added sprawling to the top guy to defend.
He initially had us drill the double starting at the 5th stage with resistances… then had us sprawl while in the 5th stage with resistance… yep wrestling ain’t easy so much effort for a take down.
Definitely wasn’t good for my back especially with the warm up rolling with big Willy…
Rolling:(5 min rounds)
1. Rock Climber
2. Daluca
Guys weren’t letting up… good push. great tough rounds!!
