Seriously bro… the stats below are real?
Black Belt and enjoying the journey are definitely achievable and attainable goals, just gotta put time OTM!

Don’t hate on the dedicated… you haven’t walked in their shoes.
Got to BJJ around 5:30 pm… Matt Thorburn was in to run the class. I partnered with Emma Horner. Let’s just say she is a gold medaling wrestler from Lakehead University. She drops tones of wrestling information… don’t be blind to it, a tone of education you don’t normally pick up in an average BJJ class. Fantastically awesome.
We worked on a high crotch to an single leg takedown, then a transition to a duck under back take. Thorburn then had us review the back step from inside the half guard. It was a back step to fight for the under-hook or set up a knee bar. If the knee bar wasn’t an option then step back to continue the knee slice to side control, with the under-hook and the far side arm.
Unfortunately, no rolling… but tones of reps on the high crotch and single leg take downs. Never a loser from this kind of class.
Yep hit the Complex in the morning
Hard works pays off… boy was I drained after this session…

Homies be like what… yep, Complex in the morning for my 4 sets of rowing.
Got my 2km in the last set…
Got to LEMMA around 5:15 pm… Dave was in to run the class, yep NOGI… Similar takedowns from last week as a warm up. I got sacked in the nuts by my partner… Kyle the blue belt from Halifax… fuck did that hurt lol… haven’t been sacked like that during a drill since like ever hahahha. oh well. After the warm up we reviewed a few back takes and a few escapes then rolled.
Rolling: (5 min rounds, 1 min breaks)
Tough class after being sacked lol…
Received a message from an old friend in Kitchener asking about BJJ clubs in Kitchener… He told me that he loves the videos I post and he wants to give it a try. If my blogging and BJJ gibberish can inspire a few people to give it a try. BJJ speaks for its self… you will get addicted

Lol…
Yep… rowing this morning at the Complex.
Level 5… next is 6… experimenting. Forgot to take a picture of the first round.
Got to LEMMA around 5:15 pm… Warm-up was pummeling for 5 to 10 mins.
Partnered with Jesse. Reviewed the over under, body lock takedown. Then the inside foot sweep when your opponent counters with an outside step. Matt got a newer guy to join our technical review… then another guy joined. Both greener then grass. Ouch lol… I slowly transitioned myself to work in with Travis and Nathen yes. The purple belt nerds.
Hey I got needs too lol… needy to learn more BJJ. Coaching is cool… but I attend these classes to learn. Hah!!
We then reviewed a gilliotine from the sprawl with a hook to sweep. After that we worked on the darce choke and then the Peruvian necktie… yes the neck tie, with my short ass legs lol.
Excellent class with review of submission techniques I only hit on very special occasions.
Big class… prime time. Wish these homies would man up… buy a GI and attend my classes. Need more bodies… for the training. Oh well… future bodies I guess. Once they figure out where their game needs to evolve.

Yep Nogi… got to LEMMA around 5:15 pm… Thorburn was running the show. Got us to pummel for a warm-up. I partnered with Philippe. He then got us to review a take down from the collar tie to a under-hook, then a counter with a side step the chin pick tricep grab pull down. The size differential made it a challenge, but it was nice to trouble shoot through the challenge.
I did manage to get Cardio in at the Complex… yep 4th set was the best. I need to make this consistent.
Thorburn then got us to review a knee slice-pass cut through pass, with a switch of the under-hooks. My guess next week is a step back pass to counter your opponent on the bottom if he fights the other under-hook.
Fan-freaking-tastic… a lot of work to do, takedowns and takedown defence is an area I need to work.

Yep… 5:30 pm BJJ…
Wait… it was nogi hahahah….
Yep nogi… warmup was arm drags and swimming… swimming for under hooks while standing.
Loved the take downs series from the collar tie with a reversal from the 2 on 1 to a drag down or a step through… and the review for the back control defense by sliding down after breaking grips was beautiful… I partnered with Marco the whole class. All we did was rep these techs. My kinda class.
Thorburn has a different style of grappling, really hard to simulate while rolling with others. Picking off relevant techniques and his approach to the art is what will make you evolve to become a better artist.
Ossss!
For those that missed out… You suck.
Hahahahahah!
I’m still sore from the shark tank yesterday… 😦
Osss!

Met up with Travis and hit up the Complex early in the morning. Love the fact they have a day care…
Lifts:
1. Squats, 135 lbs, 5 sets, 18 reps
2. Bench, 135 lbs, 4 sets, 18 reps
3. Crunches, 4 sets, 18 reps
Went to the local Teddy Bear Picnic at a local park with G, met up with another other couple with a kid his age or close lol… by 3 months hahahah cute.
Wifey got home in time for me to get ready for 5:30 pm , nogi… yes nogi…
Yes gotta train nogi.. partnered with Jesse Vetri… yes he came to a class lol… crazy… pigs are flying. Dude trains jitz twice a day. Second actual class I’ve seen him attend this year, he’s probably attended other lol. My one Sunday class, then this lol… he is getting ready for Masters Worlds… one day I’ll make it. More, mat time is important, especially to work on and refine technique.
Matthew Thorburn reviewed a string of closed guard attacks set up from an arm drag, with a lat grip. Love these wooo.
Emma then joined to work on these techniques. Emma is a freak wrestler who is slowly adjusting to playing off her back… slowly.
She has been away for over a year working on her wrestling and competitions with the University she attends locally here. FANTASTIC!!
Rolling:
1. Emma Horner
2. Morgo Razer Frazer
3. Colin the 220 lbs white belt with an Aikido back ground
Fun rounds… Emma with her deadly head snaps downs to gilliotine… she fights tooth and nail for the takedown… must be a wrestling thing lol…
I ended up pulling guard, she wasn’t happy lol. Then I transitioned to a single leg. Oops hahah.
Morgo was just flowing which was nice… dude busted his foot again. Rest up homie. Seriously lol.
Hahahah
Rolling with Colin was a tough as usual. Dude is always rolling hard lol.
Oh well… especially with a big guy who is basically just figuring out how to use a fantastic base. Especially when he fights tooth and nail for the top game…
Yes smaller purple belts have problems with bigger guys especially when there is a 60 lbs to 70 lbs weight difference and that they have been training for a while…
Weight does make a difference when skill catches up…
Oh well, I always end up focusing on my sweep and closed guard game with him… he will learn.
Hopefully we see you out tomorrow!

Watch the exclusive footage of Renzo Gracie training with Paulo Miyao in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The session took place in the palace of Sheik Tahnoon bin Zayed, one of the most exclusive mats in the world. We’re not allowed to film for long, but what we got was serious good stuff. Here’s Renzo Gracie training with Paulo Miyao

Word… got to the gym at 1:45 pm.
Some guys on the weights
Morgo was in with a guest from the US.
Warm up was short with a a few variation of an ankle pick with a collar tie. Technique involved a slip collar choke transition switch to preposition to the opposing size when your partner defends by moving to the opposite side of the over hook and with your partner turtling to defend. Keith was in for a bit, and he showed us a few variants of the take down which was nice. My favorite was collar tie to a mount guillotine.
Myself, Morgan, Aria, Scotty P, Big Rig, New guy white belt Alex with the nice blue GI…
Luke was late missing the warm-up per usual.
LOVE CHOKE’s
For the remainder of the class we position-ally drilled the back exercise with 2 minute rounds, you on me, then me on you exercise, until everyone had an opportunity to go with everyone. Similar to Submission Challenges or even EBI’s sudden death or over time rounds.
We tried with full lapel grips first… no dice.
Figure got shot except mine of course..:P
Then moved to just starting with the full harness…
Positional Strangling: (2 min rnds, then switched roles)
Yep Lots of Choking!

You missed out… caught him in the wild!
