One more day to go lol… then I’m all caught up. The little guy is sick again… in fact for a few days. Projectile vomiting… poor little thing… puked at BK yesterday, a few times at home, and a few times today. Just have to keep his liquid intake up I guess. Wish I could take all his pain. Must be teething again. Apparently the pain is soo unbearable it would make a grown adult go insane, but I guess that’s what drugs are for… unfortunately not allowed for little babies.
I did manage to get in earlier again Sunday morning, like every Sunday morning lol … with no real motivation but a Tim’s medium black and a note I saw on the white board lol… so instead of 10 mins, I did 20 mins of rowing, then some 24 in box jumps, push ups and crunches in. 4 sets BTW… Oh and an additional 28 in box jumps, 10 or twelve lol.
Felt great afterwards… especially after the stretching and foam roller before the guys started galloping in… cute clip below.
A lot of non regulars showed up this morning which was nice…
I invited a few other new white belts who kept asking questions about a sweep I kept hitting them earlier during this week, in hopes that we could further review their issues, instead of preoccupying class rolling time which was very precious due to the others that required the mat space right after us at 7:30 pm…
Didn’t show… Hopefully next time.
Nathan ran the warm up… which was pretty standard with running, bear crawls, lunges, rolls, shrimping, break falls and technical stands etc… quick clip below…
Quick clip of us working on some basic drills with armbar’s, hip bump sweep’s, kimura’s, and omaplata’s…
Then we reviewed the scissor sweep from closed guard, first with the knee against the chest or neck, and then the belly with a deep cross collar and sleeve grip…
Yes then some rolling rolling lol… 6 min rounds. fun fun!!
Photo credit to my buddy Travis Duncan… well done homie.
Training and taking cool pictures at the same time is difficult… but that’s why your a brown belt homie.
2 down… 3 more BJJ related sessions to blab about… nothing special. Got behind, you know family life… a 10 month demanding further daddy time. Oh and the dog… yep kinda cute.
Got a tonne of rolling in… yep. A tonne
Clips of the rolling sessions below…
We did manage to get a crew out to the Sushi Station… horrible experience btw.
Not enough ribs, slow service, what else… slow service… oh and slow service. Food that got out was satisfactory. But yes… slow service. I guess I could say I’m super patient… but man was that ever slow lol… common lol… we go there all the time.
Jumped in to help up with the kids class tonight… slowly developing patience lol… slowly.
Thanks to Arin, Katrina, Philippe, and Travis, though… without the help not sure how to deal with little people trying to take limbs from you… especially 20 of them.
YES 2O little monkeys in Gi’s… well a few in Gi’s lol… slowly but surely… my addiction will be everyone’s… 🙂
Standard warm-ups…
Self-defence with the double neck grab, single wrist grab, then a 2 on 1 wrist grab drill with 2×2 min sessions, they then got to do a 10 min zombie game with them up kicking and guarding their face to protect their brain…
Then in 2 groups we had them sock flag wrestle for 10 mins… yes fun fun.
These guys have soooo much energy so… in their same groups I then got them to do king of the mat with first just working on getting a mount for 5 mins, then just working for a back take for 5 mins, then finishing with either mount or back take for 5 mins to be king of the mat.
Warmed with the fellow Eric, the buddy with the shiny blue Fuji Gi again… great stuff. Long ass round lol.
BTW… he didn’t spaz… well a couple of times he did. But great stuff. Much improvement since our last roll.
Travis ran the class today… I warmed the guys up with the standard running around the mat, lunges, bear crawls, forward and reverse rolls as well as some shrimps.
Travis had us review a few side control escapes 3 in fact. First was a re-guard with a forearm to the neck with a z type guard, second was a bridge roll sweep, & third was a similar sweep with a deep belt grip and body lock.
Had a visiting black belt… didn’t get his name… Logan. Apparently he is in for about 4 days… I’m was hoping to get some rolling in with him… not sure what club he trained with… I had to bounce… fa family lol
Seriously though… if you missed out. Your loss…
Great stuff!
We then rolled… first with The Duncan, and the Mitch… 5 min or 4 min rounds.
Rolled with Big Willy… dude ain’t getting smaller lol.
Having big guy’s on top of you make you focus on technique… using strength is a waste of wonderful resources, especially when there is such a large difference in size and obviously that he will beat me on the strength battle.
Roll like a mouse and wait for opportunity if there is a large size difference …
Strategy is the way to go when up against an opponent bigger and definitely more skilled then the average blue belt.
Although I did manage to tweak my lower back somehow, probably from the lack of posture while trying to escape a big man single leg lol… or maybe he sprawled on me.
Not sure.
Glad I’m not training for a tourney at the moment… still trying to gather myself mentally with all this time off from parental leave. Work hasn’t been really letting up… as paper work still appears when I make my weekly visits lol…
Partnered with the Rock Climber… Rhino ran the class, had us review the double leg at the 5th stage, then added sprawling to the top guy to defend.
He initially had us drill the double starting at the 5th stage with resistances… then had us sprawl while in the 5th stage with resistance… yep wrestling ain’t easy so much effort for a take down.
Definitely wasn’t good for my back especially with the warm up rolling with big Willy…
Rolling:(5 min rounds)
1. Rock Climber
2. Daluca
Guys weren’t letting up… good push. great tough rounds!!
Got to LEMMA around 9am… yep downed a pot of coffee.
Halloween had a few beers and too many chips lol.
Honestly I didn’t want to train… no excuses. just show up.
Results from my row session below… my brain still hurts lol
It was 100 percent the coffee that motivated me!!
Also completed 4 sets of 25 push-ups, 10 box jumps, and 100 crunches…
Put together a quick cute clip below…
Quite a number of guys and a few gals showed up this morning… wonderful.
A few new faces…
I see potential Sunday regulars!!
Quick clip of the warm-up below…
Quick clip of us drilling some fundamentals below…
Quick clip of us reviewing the rolling bow choke below, the drilling it…
We also did the circle of death, which is basically just a positional drill from side control with the top person attacking for a submission or maintaining position, and the bottom person working an escape or re-guarding.
4, 2 minute rounds on the top, then 4, 2 min rounds on the bottom.
Everyone that showed up worked their butts off… just show up, and I’m sure someone will push you.
Darn weather… #winteriscoming this rain is horribly cold.
However, open mat was full before the 6:30pm class yet again… which was great. I believe I rolled with the newer fellow again. Nice work kiddo… he focused on being technical, which was great
Coach Matt ran a wonderful take down warm-up, some self-defense when someone attacks you while in front of you on the ground. I partnered with Scotty tooo hotty.
Thor reviewed the spider guard and a basic sweep… I attached a nice clip for further reference.
The class was great… rolling prior was awesome! great vibes
Yep downed a pot before heading to LEMMA, wow… sooo many guys OTM, for open mat. Guess its that time of the year where hanging out in the sun isn’t really an option. Come out to the gym and roll… booom shakalaka… lol
Barely any room in the cage… which was fantastic.
“My obsession will become your addiction…” in a deep Darth Vader voice.
hahahahaha
Some regulars missing though.
Rhino was in for the class and he made us review shooting a double leg with a very nice break down which were in 5 stages with the following… note that you have to be close enough to touch your opponents shoulders. I partnered with my homie Juneau.
Level change
Penetration step with the lead foot, enough to be even with them
Knee down between your opponents legs, with your shoulder touch their hips
Hands behind the knee with head looking up
Then the lift and drive towards the direction of the knee that’s down, including a step around with the other leg
Loved this… this was awesome!!
I included a wiki link below with more detail for further reference
