Sun Aug 2/15 11 am BJJ

Didn’t think many would show… beautiful day, however I was in around 9:30 am.
image

Hung over lol… too much scotch last night but hey… need to get conditioning in…

image

Let just say my last set was horrible… 3rd set almost 2 mins lol woooo… getting better will never be easy.

image

I was right not many people in… only Nathan and Brittany showed up…

Kinda glad…

Got Nathan to run the show. He ran through a short warm-up, then reviewed a take down from a duck under, to a brabo choke and then a arm triangle choke.

Lucky Brittany essentially got a private lol.

We had her ask questions with what she had problems and issues with.

Tried to answer them as best as we could.

image

Then we had a few small 5 mins rounds on her with me coaching her while she rolled with Nathan…

Apparently she loved that… hah!!

After BJJ I made sure to get my intake of meatballs in from Italian Fest!!

Sat Aug 1/15 2 pm BJJ

Got to LEMMA around 1:45 pm… Steve was in, Winston popped in and then Kyle the blue belt from Halifax.

Steve reviewed a few half guard set sweeps with the hook of doom, and a low x-guard or single leg x-guard sweep from half guard. I repped them out with Steve, while Winston worked with Kyle… good times. With Steve out we did a shark tank style rolling session. 5 min rounds, with only staying in for two rounds each. I sat out for the first round.

Rolling: (5 min rounds, 1 min break)

    1. Sat out
    2. Kyle
    3. Winston
    4. Sat out
    5. Kyle
    6. Winston
    7. Sat out
    8. Kyle
    9. Winston
    10. Sat out

Boy did I ever wish I warmed up lol… but the first roll with Kyle, oh boy! warmed me up lol, then Winston right after Hah…

Winston buddy…

Kyle was rolling really smooth. Which was great… tough roll.

image

A welcomed addition to our training.

image

Will be nice to have more experienced competition blue belts around, especially with long legs and arms lol… hopefully he continues to train with us.

Felt bad for Winston… he wasn’t tapping. Really fighting the submissions. He got put to sleep… Snoring… sleep.
Thank god I noticed… cause Kyle didn’t… if no one was there to notice, Winston would have issues.

image

Got to tap homie!

Leave the ego at the door… it will slow down your learning process…

It isn’t a battle to the death

BJJ 4 Life homie!

Friday July 31/15 Open Mat

Wow, I was not motivated to go to the gym tonight…

Chugged some coffee and went anyways.

image

Especially, hanging out with my 7 month old and my 16 lbs Chiweenie all day lol…

Yes, things can get pretty cumbersome.

Hit the Complex yesterday morning again… yay on my way back down to 155 lbs lol…. walking around 165 to 170 lbs weird… hahahah

image

Always someone to help motivate you lol…

Got this in the mail today… unfortunately the baby kept me too busy to even skim through it. Oh reading material on a boring day Ha!!

image

Got in around… 5:15 pm ishy…

Rupert, Nathan, Morgan, Colin, Jesse, Winston, a newb blue belt from Halifax, Justin, and then Matt Veal showing up a little later.

Rolling: (10 min, 1 min breaks)
1. Rupert
2. Rupert
3. Jesse
4. Justin

Got Rupert to warm me up…

Yes my finger was still mangled…

Taped the shit out of it lol. Boy did he grind on me lol…

image

All I could think about was man… I could have sworn it was for me to warm up… lol… so I literally had to up my pace stay safe.

image

Oh well lol… he kept trying to do an over under pass inside my guard, which I thought was weird, because it opened up an opportunity for me to triangle him. Which rarely happens for me.

Yes almost triangled someone wooo…

Especially with my 26 inch inseam hah!!

FUN TIMES LOL

Later myself and Morgan asked him why he kept doing that… turns out he watched it on YouTube… a drill in which he tried in live rolling. Myself and Morgan tried to correct his pass… reviewing approach and when to use this pass. Unfortunately, however in turn fortunate. He learned a few ways, corrective was to use this pass while rolling with me. I’m hoping he remembers to send me the link to the video he watched this drill from… that way I can correct his initial intent. Not saying I an expert but hey. Any help, is better then no help…

image

Take it from me… I was a 4 year white belt lol…

Rolling with Jesse and Justin was fun as usual heck it was all fun! great day…

I’m glad I went in…

Clip of me and Justin rolling below…

Wed July 29/15 6:30 pm BJJ

Got to LEMMA around 6:00 pm… wasn’t sure I should have come out but hey…

wpid-fb_img_1424065246623.jpg

Morning was a doosey…

Rowing was fantastic!!

image

Dave was running the show but had to leave at 7:00 pm… he had us review from butterfly a shin guard sweep with a heel pick, a hip push sweep variation… when he left I took over, we ended up reviewing the knee push sweep variation, double shin sweep and hip sweep with double heel picks…

Below is a great reference to some of the sweeps we reviewed by Jason Skully…

I then got the guys to roll… 5 min rounds. I rolled with Steve, and Travis, both fairly new white belts. Steve is over 200 lbs, while Travis is pushing 180 lbs… yes bigger boys but hey! they gotta train and roll too.

Great class… great butterfly sweeps from Dave!

Sun July 25/15 Morning BJJ

Got to LEMMA around 9:30 am… no motivation but hey…

image

Yep… Stationary rowing… fantastic. Unfortunately no lifting. Didn’t want to risk weights with a really bad joint.

image

But 4 sets of 10 mins… every set beating the other… yes I was spent this morning.

Attendees included Katerina, Brittany, Jared, Scott, Gary, & Jesse… yes the king of Nogi… he came into learn some GI chokes. Fantastic!!

Warm-up was standard with jogging around the mat, lunges, forward/backwards rolling/shrimping and even butt scooting.

image

Drilling consisted of the x-pass, bull fighter-pass, knee slice-pass, turtle guard switches to even a harness back take and submission string follow up if you felt comfortable doing it… 2 min per person as fast as possible then switch. I drilled with Scotty which was nice because usually, there is an odd number of people.

Jesse came in at roughly 11:30 am… So he missed the warm-up and drilling. Oh well. Dude is getting technique in with a GI…

Heck he’s in a GI… BOOM
image

Technique review discussed the cross collar while inside the closed guard using the cross side lapel, as well as in side control, knee on belly, and even when fully mounted. We then reviewed the paper cutter choke from side control. Coach Matt was in and he showed a different variation of the paper cutter choke which required going to north south first which was cool and probably the first variation that was taught to me.

image

The guys spent 2 mins repping the technique each. I had them asked questions on how to make the submission theirs and how to make it work for them.

image

Had everyone roll 5 min rounds. I sat out due to my finger hyper extension. The beast sushi had to leave due to the kids fighting. The homies rolled about 3 rounds each. Lets just say I was really impressed by the way Jared rolled. He hasn’t been OTM for over a month… and wow. Great stuff!!

image

Definitely, I got sweaty from the rowing then drill session.

Back to the Buskers Festival for a mid day meal… I was determined to get some beef vindaloo lol.

Determined

Osss!!
