Positional Drills: (50% & 75% resistance)
Everyone had an opportunity to work this with everyone, and then they alternated between being in the closed guard, defending, or attacking with only cross collars.
We then discussed a few defenses to the collar choke… a nice video below by Stephan Kesting discussing other potential defenses…

Morgo went through the knee slice pass, with a variation on the grip, as well as Diesel showing his variation.

Fri June 5/15 Open Mat
Had my monkey at work all day… 5 month old…lol

Got to LEMMA around 5:30 pm… homies were OTM!!
Josh, Big Red, Big Rig, Alex the bear, Morgo, and the Frenchman… I was the odd man out… blah.
First roll was with Morgo..o oops sorry bro, accidental knee to the chin, cut his tongue.
BLOOD I see blood… tuck the head in bro when you work that pressure pass…
WEAR A MOUTH GHU-WHARD… lol
What a trooper, sorry brother… great technical roll though. Man I remember our first roll, freck we trained sooo much since… your game has improved leaps and bounds. Your flexibility was your strength, however it was your weakness, now you are working your top game… before the random scattered unfocused, thoughtless and insecure moves… to now, being a force to be reckoned with. I do remember you almost quitting BJJ. Great job homie. I remember our first tournament together, ever since that, there has been no looking back. Heck, for the both of us us!! future Black Belts!
Switched to Scotty too hotty, mid roll to let him heal lol...
Big Red, holy-moly… the explosion buddy… just have to be less telegraphing… maybe a relaxed approach with all of your strength and raw power. Building sensitivity and rolling to conserve energy for your next match may be something to think about, especially being conscientious of preparing for a tournament, with having maybe a round to recuperate, unless there is only one other guy in your division… not every roll is too the death. Nice though, once in a while, I like it, a life or death situation…lol I love rolling with you buddy, keep it up! tough rolls help me keep my head in the game. Sorry bout the pant leg. You should have let me pass… my torreando is immaculate at times hahaha.
Scotty too hotty… I see the frustration when I take your back. Your back control defense has improved a lot, well done sir. Keep on trucking!!

Josh Deluca what can I say, when I get you on your back, that’s the only way I can, one up you… sooo frecken strong… I strong like bull…osss
Man, my knee is bruised and my shin is still bruised DAFACK!!!
Rolling: (7 min, 1 min break)
- Morgo, partial
- Scotty tooo hotty, partial
- Big Red, partial
- Josh, partial
- Morgo, full

- Big Red, full
SUSHI STATION with the wife and baba after woooo!!

30 minutes with this big boy!
Open mat prior to class was in the cage…
He definitely has cage awareness lol,
kept putting me into the fence. Used it well lol
Coach Matt was sore today, so good old David Letourneau aka “Diesel ” ran the show last night…
I partnered with Nathan the Professor X… slick dude slick…
Minus the fact your stubble sticks to my GI hahahaha
Class Warm-up: (Arm-bar Drilling, 2 mins each)
- Standard Arm-bar, from closed guard
- Fat Man arm-bar, from closed guard
Lost in arm-bars… in fact 4 variations, mainly fat man ones, at least that what i call them, with different entries, grips, and options in attacking the the opposite arm for the omaplata and even just sweeping. Then we rolled with 3 min rounds. I find the 3 min rounds are the bruisers… everyone seems to go sooo freaking hard crazy crazy…
Rolling: (3 min rounds, 30 sec break)
- Diesel
- Travis Duncan
- Brittany
- Michael Maronese
Someone had the most stanky ass GI… thought it was me.
NOPE!
Not sure who… Wash that shit homie!
Kinda sore lol… smashed by bigger dudes hah?
Great news!
My boy the Frenchman is back from his Brazil trip and he has news…

Sat May 30/15 BJJ
Word… got to the gym at 1:45 pm.
Some guys on the weights
Morgo was in with a guest from the US.
Warm up was short with a a few variation of an ankle pick with a collar tie. Technique involved a slip collar choke transition switch to preposition to the opposing size when your partner defends by moving to the opposite side of the over hook and with your partner turtling to defend. Keith was in for a bit, and he showed us a few variants of the take down which was nice. My favorite was collar tie to a mount guillotine.
Myself, Morgan, Aria, Scotty P, Big Rig, New guy white belt Alex with the nice blue GI…
Luke was late missing the warm-up per usual.
LOVE CHOKE’s
For the remainder of the class we position-ally drilled the back exercise with 2 minute rounds, you on me, then me on you exercise, until everyone had an opportunity to go with everyone. Similar to Submission Challenges or even EBI’s sudden death or over time rounds.
We tried with full lapel grips first… no dice.
Figure got shot except mine of course..:P
Then moved to just starting with the full harness…
Positional Strangling: (2 min rnds, then switched roles)
- Aria
- New guy white belt Alex
- Big Rig
- Scotty P
- Morgo
- Luka
Yep Lots of Choking!

You missed out… caught him in the wild!
