Train lots, train as often as you can, and just do it… especially if you can. Work, life, and plenty of worldly things will always get in your way, but when absolute opportunity arise, man there are no excuses, aside from sickness and health. Moving and doing things is what makes us live. Being engaged in actual physical and mental activities makes us human, creatively makes us grow intuitively. Its innate and deep deep inside us.

Everything’s in the mix… the perfect hobby.
Ironic though… a wonderful quote I once came upon by the lovely Tabetan Monk the Dalai lama
BJJ takes me to the here and now. Living in the moment. Trying to survive for my life.
Sooo then definitively BJJERs are living!!
Whut whaaat!!!
#BJJ4life #bjjfourlife
Osss Osss!!
Yeah lol…
Got to LEMMA around 9 am… gym temperature was crap lol.
Hot extreme warmer temperatures minimise injury period come on mon… guess the owners of building hate paying for hydro or gas lol.
Maybe the heat is why in Brazil the age cohort is much greater that train in Jiu-jitsu…
That’s a bunch of #bullshit BTW lol.
Jiu-jitsu has just been there much much longer lol. I do see some kind of positive correlation between injuries and the climate of the conditioning area’s… makes sense no? Still gotta warm up though. False sense of physical security jumping right into hard rolling lol…
Yes last night I popped a naproxen… didn’t even go to BJJ at night. Ankle and upper back was a little sore.
No I didn’t drink lol…
Apparently naproxen and alcohol can cause holes in the stomach. Don’t need that lol.
Clip of us this morning below, 5 min rounds, with Kat, Thor, Winston, Jordan, and Justin…
Coach Keith dropped some nice knowledge about the collar grip set up!! Ossssss, if you missed it… to bad. Go get a private from him.
Showed up at LEMMA around 9 am… tones of guys OTM this wonderful morning.
Temperature was #badass in the gym.
Great for the joints of this old man…
Love how I’m getting 2 weeks off of work to unwind, yep back at the desk on the 4th lol… especially after the grueling session of trying to play catch up to all the paper work after taking 5 months off from Parental leave to take care of the baba. No hate…
Parental was parental leave, seriously all work and no sleep hah!!
#babybrainexists
Veal showed us some tricks with the darce choke from side control with his long ass monkey arms…
Fantastically awesome!
Rounds were tough this morning, no one was letting up… freaking sore, tired and burnt out.
KINDA LOL.
Great stuff though… rolled with the Bear, Veal, Tony and then Thor. All were 5 mins of constant pressure, with 1 min breaks?
Was reminiscing my very first takedown in my very first IBJJF tournament in Chicago after I got my blue belt… made a cute clip of it while drinking scotch last night below…
Got a quick clip of us messing around this morning below…
Rolling is soooo important… its the magical glue that melds all of what you feel as your grappling intuition into the desired responsive sensitivity you wouldn’t normally develop just from working on, or drilling technique.
Man just show up lol… your training partners will push you.
Thank god for open mats and rolling we get… It gives us an opportunity to practice what we think we’ve learnt on live training partners. Sometimes too live hahahah LOL
Either way… got to LEMMA around 5:15 pm Friday. Morgo and Marco were OTM. Working on something, wasn’t even sure. I taped my week ass foot up, coffee was already downed. Rolled with Morgo, Marco, Kait, Kyle, Kevin & Mitch. A couple times with Marco, Mitch, Kait & Kyle… time flew by. 10 min rounds… yep great times. Good rolls and a lot learnt.
Wanted snow… just not all this damn wet slushy stuff lol.
Got to LEMMA around 5:30 pm…
Yes tape.
Yes ankle wraps.
Yes naproxen.
Had a long ass roll with Thor. Short easy flow round with young Leath. Then a fun round with Tyler. Great stuff… Thors is always a tough roll, making me work my ass off on bottom. Leath is just a new and a very young white belt. Tyson… damn Tyler… we need to work on your passing lol… who’s teaching you to do funny stuff like that… lol… we need to talk!
Warm-up was good!!
Arching and shrimping lol… yes shrimping.
Bad ass don’t hate brah!!
Thor had us review knee circles to negate the butterfly fantastic… shins are sore.
Went to Kelsey’s… wing today night.
Holy crow… too 20 mins for someone to take my order.
Ridiculous… lol half price wings worth it I guess lol.
Either way last night class was great!
The long ass roll was good… lots of time to think, adjust and improve on the previous errors.
Coach is gonna up the time to 90 mins instead of 60, which is fantastic!
More rolling and drilling which is awesome!!
No tip pho you Kelseys waitress sorry… didn’t even hook me up blue cheese like I ordered… missing carrots and celery lol.
Between holidays, colds, and injuries we do what we gotta do…
Cause we do lol
Got to LEMMA around 5:45 pm…
Tape, YES!!…
Tiger Balm, YES!!…
Naproxan, YES!!!…
Stupid damn cold/cough, YES!!
Am I getting over this damn cold??, YES!!!
Did I show up to roll… yes lol…
The cage was full, tone of other homies rolling… awesome.
Noticed Kait and a very young fellow by the name of Leath sitting by on the fence… guess no one wanted to roll with them homies.
Hey…
They need time OTM too… BJJ is for everyone. LOL
We were all white belts once… rolling with them helps us position our selflessness in the world of BJJ, teach others, as others have taught you!
After rolling with Leath, I believe I rolled with Eric and then Thor. Yes last round felt like forever stuck under Thors mount. Not fun… not fun at all.
Either way, Thor ran the warm-up, I partnered with my homie Caleb… who’s a newb.
Thor had us review a heel pick, the knee-slice pass as well as the back-step pass… love them all.
Either way, fantastic class… I’m 5 days behind… oh well.
Between my foot, my eye’s and lack of sleep from the baby being sick, reality is, I should have taken Friday off lol… not to mention the long ass day at the office playing mental catch up with paper work that was piled on my desk throughout the 5 months off on parental leave… but hey, life sucks sometimes…
Roll with the punches or die?…
Or, is it paddle or you drown?
Or, ummm sink or swim?
AH WHATEVER LOL
That’s why this is my gibberish… can write whatever I want lol…
Can’t stay off the mat.
GOT TO TRAIN
Noticed a fellow OTM that I really haven’t seen since we moved to this location, probably since 2011? maybe 2012?… guessing only a few people remember what happened that night OTM… strange and awkward it was…
With our core of current guys definitely haven’t had a situation like that since or even ever.
Surprised to see him there for open mat last night… oh well.
Rolled with Jrock, Rock Climber and then Sillymon… dudes were turning it up lol… great job!
5 to 10 min rounds great stuff.
Rolling with the Jrock below…
Rolling with the Rock Climber below…
Rolling with Sillymon below…
My battery ran out soo… missed my other few rounds with a few others not even sure… #babybrainexists
Toe is still mangled lol… butt scooting is key and trying to roll light. lol
Unconscious I was at one point… crazy when you lose a few seconds of memory.
Rolling rolling… we were rolling.
First roll was with Beef… light roll. Really light warm-up roll…
So light I went nighty night with a very fast single armed triangle. I tapped… just not fast enough, and worst off in a manner that could not be communicated to my partner. I believe, I may have tapped myself… Ironically enough, I give everyone else shit for not tapping fast enough. Guess humility OTM every so often is a good personal reminder that everyone is not perfect including, obviously myself first and foremost. Embarrassed, a little… but hey this is my blog and honesty is key. Like on the mat our weaknesses will be exposed in one way or form. My gibberish is my gibberish no masking of the truth. Last time I fell asleep was at our old club on James St… during an open mat on a Saturday, triangled by our Professor and head coach doing Nogi via triangle… in 2009 lol… yes. That long ago lol, I vowed to my myself to tap early enough to never fall asleep again… back then all I remembered was stars, seeing a bunch of stars, then my body went limp… he released, and bong, I acted as if nothing happened nd that I was alright lol. Low and behold I was not… I went to sleep in his triangle yep… damn triangle and guys with long legs… damn-it.
Regardless, it was a good reminder that no one is invincible, especially myself. Not taking away from my partner, technically it was sound, no pain, not even the stars that I saw the last time, that’s how fast it went on lol… The head and arm was secured prior to the transition over me… which is where I recall tapping and unfortunately it must have been on my own chest with my free arm lol… which makes sense based on the position he had me in… reality is I should had tapped with my feet or yelled out vocally… then I recall vividly entering my house doors to an angry wife… then Beef’s face yelling my name and asking what my name was… Beef mentioned when I woke up I grabbed his lapel and set up for an arm drag… yep… setting up my grips lol. Felt really out of it… drunk in fact, guess I was out for a few minutes, maybe less.
Lesson learned tap!
Tap early…
Really early, if its with someone that is technically sound…
In my head I was like… I gotta keep rolling, or else coming out to the gym was for nothing lol… yeah weird.
Next I rolled with Black Belt Keith, a roll with Morgan, then a really long ass roll with Nathan, 3 or even 4 rounds straight through… still feel a little woozy… eyes are really bad… capillaries must have ruptured from the pressure.
We did manage to hit up the Tokyo house after for Sushi lol… the wife wasn’t impressed with my eyes though.
Saturday morning…
Sunday after Sunday BJJ
Tuesday…
We cannot find perfection within ourselves without making countless dumbass mistakes… and yes, that is my statement if you are wondering.
Got to LEMMA around 5:45 pm…got some rolling in. First big Willy, then with the Pirate.
LONG ASS ROUNDS lol
Great stuff tough long sessions with some bigger boys lol.
Thor ran the class with a warm-up that consisted of doubles and sprawling…
Back and forth back and forth for like 15 minutes lol or was it 20?? wait was it 10?
I partnered with the beast St Amand.
My foot was still mangled lol… wish we had the option to pull guard. Hah!!
Thor had us review the elbow push escape to counter the double under-pass, as well as from a transition while your opponent in top side control moves the outside anchor arm to across the body for better positioning. Marcelo Garcia used this all the time. Excellent escape when you can time this well. Very powerful once your arm locks out… below is a nice clip for further review with Marcelo demonstrating this from side control.
Rolling:(3 mins, 30 sec break)
St Amand
Fuji
Big Steve
Thank god for the open mat prior… 3 min rounds just ain’t enough some times lol… especially if your trying to execute the technique we reviewed in class and the white belts are trying to eat you alive for dinner and with other agendas on their mind lol…
I did manage to hit the gym this morning to get some cardio in… rowing for about 40 mins… results below.
Made a visit to LEMMA this morning as well…
NICE TO SEE MY ADDICTION BECOMING OTHERS OBSESSION… ahahhaha
Bunch of guys working on a knee/shin guard sweep, some rolling and drilling.
We went to the Thai Kitchen afterwards… fun stuff!!!
My Gi was soaked after the class, washed after every use BTW…
Time to rotate and use one of my other beloved GI’s from my little collection.
